A Quick Toddler Oatmeal Recipe

Oatmeal is such a hearty way to start the day. When I first started introducing oatmeal to our girl, I tried a few variations but this one is Michaela’s tried-and-true favorite. It’s so simple. Like I mentioned here, we make it almost every day.  I even send it to daycare and her teachers rave about its delicious aroma that fills the room when they heat it up! I think this prompted them to ask for the recipe!

Here’s our sweet & simple recipe, easy to modify however you’d like!

Quick Toddler Oatmeal

  • 1/4 cu quick cook oats
  • 1/2 cu water
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • 1 tsp flaxseed meal (ground flax seeds)
  • Dash of cinnamon (to taste)
  • Additional Toppings: a splash of milk, diced banana, fresh blueberries, raisins, steamed apples

Add the oats and water in a large bowl (with high edges to prevent overflow) and heat in the microwave for 2 minutes (or according to oats package directions).  Remove while still hot and add the brown sugar and cinnamon, stirring to dissolve evenly.  Add flax then other toppings as your little one prefers! Lately mine is loving diced “ma-na-na”s on top. 🙂

Next up we’re looking forward to trying out baked oatmeal cups, overnight oats, and crockpot oatmeal!
